Mt. Nebo Loop Fall Colors Run

As the sun rose on Saturday, September 29, it promised us a grand day for the annual run to Mt. Nebo. This run is a hefty 200+ miles and reaches altitudes around 10,000 feet. Temperatures go from jacket cool 40's to water guzzling 90's. Car temperatures were also an issue as some of the grades are just plain steep. Early in the day, we lost Bill and Julie Van Moorhem. Their MG just stopped dead in its tracks. Jon and Susan Hermance came to the rescue and it was ascertained that Bill's coil had spit its last spark. They took off in Jon's car to get another coil and were to catch up to us. Unfortunately, we didn't see them again that day.

The back roads leading up to the Mt. Nebo Loop were fun to drive. Each blind curve yielded some kind of surprise, like a big truck, a deer or just good old British car oil slicks. This year a fire had been burning the week prior to the run, which made everything quite hazy. In fact, although we never were actually near the fire, we all went home smelling like we had been camping for a week. Our thanks to Gary Lindstrom for organizing one of the best events of the year. Below are some photos contributed by Julie Robinson.

Several pit stops were made along the way to allow engines to cool, thirst to be quenched and various other functions.

Ben Chou hovers over Dad's MGB. Joe finally let him drive after awhile.

On the trail with blue skies and pleasant temps.

Headed up the road to the picnic ground for lunch.

We found the spot and parked the cars. Suddenly the air was filled with the sounds of pop tops, wine corks and twist caps.

Some great looking cars no matter which way you look at them.

Lunch came strolling by. Burgers anyone?

Good food, good friends, good times.

Ditto.

Bruce does the here's me taking a picture of you taking a picture of me taking a picture of you shot.

Joe and Ben left the group after lunch and drove down to Las Vegas to visit a bike show.

Julie's ready to get back on the trail.

The fall colors were not as good as in some years past, but the drive and everything else nature had to offer that day made up for it.

Another stop to cool engines and take in the scenery.

It was a great day to have the top down.

A view from the top. Note all the smoke from the fire.
